After being strung along for months and finally being promised that the government would take account of the firefighters case the answer was – no change, the proposals are exactly the same.
Firefighters must pay more into their pension fund, they will receive less and they must work until they are 60, or lose up to 50% of their pension if they are judged not fit to carry on.
The firefighters are fighting for us all. If they are beaten then governments now and after the election will feel confident to carry on cutting: cutting jobs, cutting pay, cutting conditions, cutting pensions, cutting benefits and cutting services.
